I thought it would be a good idea to give some accurate and informative information about vaccines. This will include; the different vaccines available, who is eligible to get them, and how to access them. What are the different vaccines Available?Currently, there are three kinds of coronavirus vaccines available to people in the USA.
Who is eligible to get the vaccines?*Disclaimer - this is focusing on the vaccine requirements in NY because each state has different rules. We recently reached a MAJOR milestone in the COVID-19 vaccine rollout process. On Tuesday, April 6th, it was announced that any New York resident over the age of 16 could receive a COVID-19 vaccination! It is important to note that those who are 16 or 17 are only able to get the Pfizer-BioNTech as the other two vaccines were not tested on that age group. Also, there is currently no vaccine available for those under 16. How can I get vaccinated? There are quite a few ways to find vaccine sites that you can access.
1. Use these sites to make an appointment:
3. You will need to complete the vaccine eligibility form after you have a confirmed appointment.

11/20/2020 0 Comments Best books middle - high schoolHey All! I thought it would be a good idea to give you a list of some of the best books I have ever read. Adults are always the ones making the book lists. I think it should be the other way around since we are the ones reading the books! If you have any suggestions of books please leave a comment and I would love to read it and get back to you!
During these hard times it is more important than ever to have a good book. This is also in order of my favorites! For each book I put some of the blurb on the back of the book. For ones that have more mature content I put them in red.
Here are some resources for getting books for free/virtually! These are in order of which ones I would recomend.
11/19/2020 0 Comments Nyc public schools have closedHello everyone! I'm sorry it has been so long since I have written. I needed to take a little break and just think for a while. Now I am back and excited to share my new opinions with you! Again, please send in your stories!
Recently I have been quarantined. By this, I mean the 14 day incubation period in which you need to stay away from everyone and everything because you may develop symptoms of coronavirus. I mentioned earlier that I was going to school in person. Well, someone in my school tested positive for a Covid case. While I knew this was always a possibility, I never thought that all of those stories about quarantining for 14 days would actually be me. I have discovered many things during this time. First, 14 days is a LONG time. It is especially long when you are on a group chat with people who are still doing in person things together and you have no idea what they are talking about. Second, among us (popular group video game) is actually pretty fun. Third, things can end just as quickly as they started. Finally, I have learned the value of a good book, some friends you can have fun with, and school (again). Now, the reason I didn't put my family in there was because I actually have to quarantine from my family. This has really broken my heart. Throughout this entire virus I have always felt safe around my family even in those times when I didn't even feel okay taking a step outside. Right now, I can't even feel safe around them because there is always that possibility that I could get them sick. That is something that I could never forgive myself for. That is where friends come in. They are really involved in all of the things I have learned in quarantine. These are friends who are quarantining with me. They understand what it is like to feel that you could be responsible for spreading Covid - 19 to people. They understand what it is like for things to end just as quickly as they started. They understand that something that you think is finally stable begins to shake. This will sound cheesy but I will just go for it. It is hard to weather a storm alone. Sometimes, you need a whole pack to fight against those winds (i'm not even sure if that is the right quote, but still). Alright. About 7 weeks ago I was able to return to school after eight months of being stuck at home. The first day back I said to someone, "This is not as momentous as I had dreamed it up to be." That person answered, "Maybe you are just waiting for the moment that makes it special." At the time, I have to admit. I didn't think that was good advise at all, but then months later when schools close, I am realizing all of those special moments that I had during the last seven weeks. All of the laughs, all of the tears, all of the fun, being with people who are my own age (still love you fam). I told my mom one night walking home from soccer practice, "sometimes I try to remind myself that this could all be taken away." I said that because things were going relatively well for me. School was going well, I was attending soccer, and I was enjoying some normal 12 - year old activities. I realize now that if I had never allowed myself to enjoy these things I was doing, I would never have had those special moments. Everyone who is reading this. Please remember that life is unpredictable. While we might have been trying to brace ourselves for impact, the impact could have come sooner than expected. None of us could have known the exact date when NYC public schools were to be shut down. None of us could have expected anything that happened during this virus. That's why, coming from a student. We don't need closure, because nothing needs too close. Our city will ensure that schools continue. Everyone, please stay positive and know that there are people out there who care about you. * If you are in quarantine, it helps to do a countdown of the days (i'm on day 8). Today is a day that we celebrate many things. First and foremost we celebrate the win of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. We also celebrate having the first woman as a vice president. Today we celebrate that we have someone who cares in office. Someone who cares about all of the lives that have been lost due to coronavirus. Someone who cares about the fear and deaths caused by racism in our society. Today we celebrate because we can finally relax a bit knowing that we are going to have a president that we can trust to stand by us.
I think many of us are in fact waiting for the other shoe to drop. The other shoe being Trump pulling some strings to make himself win. While this could happen, we have to remember that our country does not give all of its power to this one man. There are other levels of our democracy that prevent the president from independently making decisions. Something else reassuring was what Biden said in his speech yesterday about making voices matter, "I don't care how hard people try to stop it, I will not let it happen." These might be tough months following the election but Joe Biden will do his best to make sure that every voice is heard, and that every voice counts. Something else that was important was that we want our nation to come together. Over these last four years America has slowly been crumbling under the leadership of Donald Trump. Knowing that Biden will be in office brings hope that our country can be a nice place once again. Yesterday in the speech Biden gave he talked about how the people spoke. That they want to come together, not pull apart. I feel confident that he will try to achieve that. He will be serving everyone, not only those who voted for him, but to all those who make up America. Biden also addressed that Kamala Harris has been and will continue to work with him on taking immediate action on the issues around us. Coronavirus is taking more and more lives each day. The horrible racism in our country has too many people afraid. No one should feel afraid of being killed or harmed because of their race. Joe Biden understands that and he will fix this in his presidency. So, Joe Biden may be 77, but he will be our president and I could not be more proud. 11/6/2020 0 Comments Another take on coronvirusWhile this person would like to remain anonymous, I am pleased to inform you of the first submission I have recieved! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!
This is a 12 year old from Italy. I have read what you have written about coronavirus and I fully agree with you. This moment is very difficult, but it is necessary to hold on for the good of us all. Unfortunately, even here in Italy many people do not understand this, and put their needs before everyone else's. They don't respect the rules, they complain because they can't have parties, and they find a way to transgress. 11/5/2020 0 Comments Some things You can write about Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well. As you already know I depend on your stories and opinions. I realized today that you may not know what to write about or share. I thought it would be helpful to simply give you some ideas!
I want to hear a youth's perspective. If that means simply sharing what you want to be when you grow up, or what your daily life is like, that is perfectly OKAY! 11/4/2020 0 Comments A kid's Take on coronavirus I am not a scientist, but I am a student in NYC public schools that is doing blended learning. I have an opinion about coronavirus, and I want to share it with you. Being someone in this situation gives me the resources I need to do just that.
In order to go to school, many precautions are being taken. Masks must be worn at ALL times, windows and doors are left open, my father drives me to school instead of the subway, I have to fill out a health screening form every day. All of these things are the price that I pay, and so many other kids are paying, to go to school. (Many kids can’t even go to school, and don’t have the resources to work from home.) We are taking countless precautions in order to open, but is everyone else? Everyone wants to open and return to normal but that’s just it. This situation is anything but normal, and treating it that way will hurt us all, again and again. As Lemony Snicket says in A Series of Unfortunate Events, “We are not out of the woods yet.” We can’t just fight the virus once and then press the play button on something that was paused. The virus is there, lurking in the shadows, and it will keep coming back until we realize that we can’t return to normal, and that a new normal is necessary. In March and April, the U.S faced terrible losses and eventually we recovered, but the virus was still there. We decided that we should open, and the virus came back in July. The cases started going down again and we opened everything once more. Recently we have reached a new high of cases in the U.S. Each time we decided to open things up again we cost thousands upon thousands of lives. If you lost your brother, or your mother, or your friend, or a colleague, I am so sorry. You can help in making our country realize that we have to stop opening everything up and lying to ourselves that we have solved the problem. We haven’t. I want things to be open so badly. I want to be able to eat inside, to go to school, to talk and laugh with my friends without the use of a video screen. I want to enjoy museums, and just be a normal kid, having fun. But what our country needs might not be what we want, and that is something that we are going to have to accept. We might have to find other ways to support our economy, and give up our brunches with friends, but just think: You would be saving so many people. As a member of today’s youth, I can speak for the people I know. We hate living like this, not being able to see people and really feel their presence. It is a sacrifice I am willing to make in order to save the people you love, and the people I love. So, I am asking you, please, be patient and wait until the time is right, when we can defeat this virus once and for all. I am just a child and I am willing to pay this price, so why can’t you? |
AuthorI am a member of today's youth. I am in 7th grade and attend The 30th Ave School. I always have a new idea that I want to execute and this is one that I am particularly proud of. I hope you enjoy my stories and hopefully the stories of many others. Once again, we all have a voice. I look forward to hearing yours. |
